We’ve been asked for updates on various issues at Crystal Palace Park.
The Waterfall has not been working for several weeks and the dry bed is looking very uncared for. This breakdown was due to vandalism of the power supply. We have been pursuing Bromley Council to get the repairs completed. A new steel pillar to protect the supply has now been received. The council were also dependent on UK Power Networks who have to carry out the work.
We now have their final timetable:
9th September 2011, for ground excavation works and connection of the mains supply. 13th September 2011, for final metering connection by EDF.
Let’s hope this more substantial repair will stop any further problems.
Many residents have been concerned at the reduction in the numbers of Park Rangers. This is a result of the cut backs in local authority expenditure. Many activities in the park will be affected, including support for educational visits, park safety and keeping the park tidy and free from fly tipping and graffiti. The council recognises that the maintenance of the park will be put under some strain but hope that there will still be support for education visits. Ward Security, who patrol other parks and respond to requests for help will also have a greater presence in Crystal Palace Park.
Park users will none the less regret the loss of the Rangers who have added so much to the value of park visits.
