Every two months, our local police team meet with representatives from the community to discuss local policing issues. The panel met last week; Kathy is our representative. Main points of the discussion were:
Affinity Sutton evicted a troublesome tenant from a local flat after she was caught looting in the recent riots. This along with other ongoing problems led to the tenant being evicted whilst serving a custodial sentence.
A gang leader from the Groves estate had also been taken off the streets into a specialised treatment centre.
There has been an increase in burglary and theft from motor vehicles over recent months. SNT say all these crimes could have been avoided by residents locking windows and outer doors of multi-occupancy buildings and not leaving valuables on show in vehicles. Number plates and scrap vehicles have also been targeted.
Fires are again on the increase and police and the council are taking appropriate action to clear dumped flammable items and trace the perpetrator.
All other crime was down.
SNT are working with the Penge Traders to relaunch Business Watch.
Squatting in the area has increased and this is being tackled as appropriately.
