Crystal Palace Cinema frontage saved

The original cinema frontage in Church Road

Proposals to make changes to the art-deco facade of the old cinema and bingo hall in Church Road Crystal Palace were rejected by a Bromley Planning Committee this evening.   The planner’s report recommended refusal for the changes to the frontage and refusal for the advertising hoarding but permission for a landscaping poroposal at the front.   Neither of the Crystal Palace councillors were in the chamber to speak on the issue, again. As a councillor for the neighbouring (and well connected) ward, I was able to support the arguments for the recommended refusals. Both were refusals were agreed unanimously. I also tried for refusal of the landscaping on the grounds that it was designed to match the frontage that had just been refused permission, rather than the existing art-deco frontage, and that it might attract loitering. The landscaping was also refused, by a single vote.
