Every two months, a group of local residents meet with our Penge & Cator Safer Neighbourhood Team. It’s known as the Safer Neighbourhood panel and Kathy Bance sits on it for your local councillors. Here is her report of this week’s meeting.
Recently a young man was stabbed at Anerley Station. He is recovering but the perpetrator/s had not been identified. Robberies and other crime in this location were on the increase so we will be trying to get a CCTV camera installed. This would act as a deterrent or at least aid making arrests and so bringing justice to the increasing number of victims.
The flexibility in the work of the SNT had brought more outside police into Penge to tackle the increase in robberies and shoplifting in the Ward.
Operation Bumblebee is back. Protect your home from burglary. Bumblebee gives 10 top tips for securing your home so visit their website and don’t be a victim. http://www.metbumble.org
New ways of responding to burglaries
If you ever arrive home and notice that your home has been broken into. Do not enter the house – the robber could still be inside and you could be in danger. Stay outside and dial 999 and you will get immediate police presence and the crime will be investigated even if the perpetrator has left the property.
If you enter the property and find no-one inside then call 999 your call will not receive an immediate attendance by crime officers.
The priorities for our SNT over the coming months were identified as:
- Anti-social behaviour – youths
- Increased street patrol
Our SNT are doing fantastic work with local street drinkers, by enforcing the alcohol exclusion zone and working with Holy Trinity Churches Living Well project. This appears to be reducing the number of local street drinkers but unfortunately there is a trend of arrests linked to drinkers from outside our borough so we will try to address this.
