Councillors win CCTV to Penge East

The lack of success in finding the killer of Samuel Guidera, who was murdered near Penge East Station in February this year, has been hampered by the lack of CCTV pictures. Although there are two cameras on the north side of the station, which is considered a commercial area, there are none of the Newlands Park side despite there having been two robberies there this year.

Cllr Kathy Bance has been raising the issue with the Community Safety team at the council who initially declined to take any action. However, following her persistence it now looks possible to install a camera on the pedestrian bridge to increase safety on the Newlands Park side. The effectiveness of cameras is clear from their having been no incidents on the side with CCTV while an increase in incidents on the Sydenham side.
