Parish Lane, Alexandra Cottgaes Estate House

We’ve been asked about the work being carried out at the Alexandra cottages Estate House.   This property is both 16 Hardings Lane and 56B Parish Lane and is part of the Alexandra Cottages Conservation Area.

The history is that the Estate House has been unused for several years.   We have been encouraging the council to use their powers to bring it back into use.    As a result it was recently put on the market and sold to people with local connections.

The new owners intend to live in the house and have applied for Planning Permission  to use the Estate buildings and courtyard for a small garden centre selling plants and garden supplies.  This would be based in the outside area of 56b and in the wooden structures adjacent to the workshop.  The ground floor of the workshop will be a small shop selling vintage garden and kitchen items and we would like to sell tea, coffee and cakes/biscuits [no hot food].   In the future, the applicants hope to run gardening and craft classes on the upper floor of the workshop.

This sems like a worthwhile and imaginative use of the building which could be an attractive addition to the area.
