New Cafe : new opportunities on Penge High Street

The new cafe on the High Street

The new café in the High Street, more or less opposite the end of Oakfield Road, opens at 8 am on Wednesday February 1st.  I popped in this morning.   It’s cupcakes and tea/coffee, mainly for take away but also with a small eat-in area.   The important aspect of the café though is that it is being staffed by adults with learning difficulties, who have difficulty finding employment.  They are supported by a charity and the hope is that with this experience behind them, the staff will be able to move on to other employment.   The café is light and pleasant and the cakes looked scrummy. We have been waiting for this news for several months since we supported their planning application in the middle of last year.  It’s a good and worthwhile project and we hope many people will use it, both during the day and on their way to Penge West Station.

Good to see and what a great idea being staffed by adults with learning difficulties – this gives them the chance to do something worthwhile as well as brightening up the High St

Have bought from here quite a few times and never been disappointed. Visits to the gym are now also a regular part of my life 😉
