Call for Action at Penge High Street Junction

Buses and congestion in Croydon Road

The junction of Croydon Road, Green Lane and High Street has one of the worst accident records in the borough.   We met this week with a Traffic Engineer to highlight again the damaging effect that 2 bus stops and a bus stand so close to the traffic lights are having on congestion and road safety.   This causes extra traffic on Maple Road and Oakfield Road, makes a dangerous junction with Evelina and Howard Roads and encourages frustrated motorists to put pedestrians at risk as they rush to get through the lights.

The council agree these bus stands can now be moved further from the traffic lights but more needs to be done.

We want the bus routes to finish at either Anerley or Elmers End bus stations, where there is also washroom facilities for the drivers.   This would also stop the continuous damage to street trees, kerbstones and pavement as buses mount the pavement at Franklin and Howard Road corners.

We want Bromley Council to support us and persuade London Buses accept their responsibilities and move this bus stand.   This would save the the council money while make our town safer for all.
