Cranbrook Court development granted permission

Planning consent was given on Thursday evening for the proposal to use this site as a hostel for homeless families.   We have explained in previous blogs why we were unable to completely oppose this applicaiton.   We did argue that there should be a reduction in the number of units but this was not accepted by the committee.   The decision did impose a legal agreement, as we ahd demanded, that the scheme would be managed by the council’s own agents and that nominations to the project would only come from Bromley Council.   This gives us and the council a far greater degree of control over who lives there.   As we have said previously, this is not a scheme for street sleepers but for the increasing number of individuals and families who find themsleves threatened with homlessness, largely as a result of the current economic position.   It saves them from living in unsuitable Bed & Breakfast accommodation.   They will also be local families, probably mainly from Penge.

We now have a contact with the developers and they have assured us they too will act immediately on any problems, not that we expect any.
