Dangerous trees to be felled in Crystal Palace Park

Sad to report, 10 trees in Crystal PalacePark have been found to be dead or dying and need to be removed for safety reasons.   We are hoping that the felled trees will be replaced, though we are told that this will be subject to budget.

One of the trees is a 200 year old oak, near to the maze, which posed the greatest danger of all.   However, much of the trunk will be retained as a monolith (all of the side branches and limbs will be removed, leaving a straight standing trunk) as it will be able to provide a significant habitat for wildlife for several years before complete removal is necessary.

Initially 11 trees were identified but one has since blown down of its own accord.
