Recent police activity in Penge & Cator Ward

Sgt. Rob Goodwin, who is in charge of our local Safer Neighbourhood Team has given us these recent updates.

  • On Wednesday 6th February at 11.30 am a police officer on duty on his own in Maple Road observed a male walking along the street towards Anerley, who appeared to be hiding something under his left arm. A handle of some sort was poking out from under his left armpit. The officer stopped the male and searched him , and found it was a 1ft long samurai sword. The male adult was duly arrested. He was charged with possession of an offensive weapon and appeared at Bromley Magistrates Court the next day.
  • On Thursday 7th February at approx 4.20pm there was a stabbing in ANERLEY PARK SE20 near PENGE WEST OVERGROUND STATION. A male in his 20’s was found by a PCSO on foot patrol suffering from a number of stab wounds to his upper body. The officers gave immediate first aid . The area was sealed off for a time, which had an impact on local residents. The injured males condition was not as serious as first feared. Bromley CID are investigating this and any updates on suspects will be passed through the local media in due course. No known motive, possibly gang related.
  • Both these incidents were dealt, with in their initial stages, by the local Safer Neighbourhood Teams , as well as Safer Transport & British Transport Police for the PENGE WEST incident.
  • On Saturday 3rd February approx 100 – 120 Charlton football supporters arrived in Penge from Penge West for refreshments before the match against CrystalPalace.   The fans were met by police who safely escorted them back to Penge West to continue their journey to Norwood Junction.
