Full Council Meeting Update from Monday 1st July at Bromley Civic Centre

Our motion to stop the fire cuts in London was voted down by Bromley Tories. A Tory motion on the idea of the Docklands Light Railway coming to Bromley went through although we did point out to them that we are still waiting for the Tramlink extension to Crystal Palace which was promised by Mayor Johnson in 2008.  Nobody is against the idea of having the DLR in Bromley but you have to build alliances with other boroughs to make such things happen.  Our amendment to build a one form entry rather than a two form entry  primary school on the former Kingswood House Care Home in Valley Rd in Shortlands was lost.  This will be a Harris Free School.  We also opposed the Tory plans to promote academies and free schools which have already led to problems at Balgowan School in Beckenham due to parental concerns about increasing the size of the school.  The Local Authority has a very limited role in such matters and most of the power lies with the Secretary of State.
