Further road works in Penge High Street start Wednesday

When Thames Water repaired the recent void in the High Street, outside Sainsbury’s, they discovered more problems further along the same stretch of road.
A detailed CCTV survey has just been completed and has confirmed a further breach in the sewer about 40 metres to the south of the previous problem. There is, again, a void and danger to a number of services, particularly three large water mains. Work/repairs need to take place and will therefore commence on Wednesday, 30th October.
As the void is not as severe as the previous one, a part road closure is not needed and work will be undertaken using traffic light control (manually controlled at peak times) rather than closure and diversions. The same bus stop will need to be ‘suspended’.
This work will start on Wednesday and it is estimated that the work will take up to three weeks. Although regrettable, we have been assured that this work is absolutely essential.
The Thames Water contractor is distributing standard letters to nearby properties in the usual way.
