New recreation ground in Kings Hall Road finally becomes public

After many months of waiting – and a special effort  by council officers – the new recreation ground in Kings Hall Road finally became “ours” on December 10th.   The council has taken over the land between the new houses (Bailes Place) and Kings Hall Road.   This is the first new recreation ground in the area for many years and was part of the agreement that allowed houses to be built on the site of the old pavilion to the Kings Hall Sports ground, formerly Cyphers.

Work now continues on the new public tennis courts to one side of the rec.   This land is also now owned by the council but is being leased to Park Langley Tennis Club to develop in conjunction with the LTA.   Use of the courts will be open to anyone who pays a small annual fee, the same as the  arrangement in Beckenham Park.  Construction of the courts can now continue and weather permitting these should be available in the spring.   So a good result all round and worth the wait and effort.

That’s terrific news. Any update on the Alexandra and Kent House Tavern pubs?

  2. Alexandra has been bought – we hear there are plans for studios in the upper floor and hopefully bar, bistro restaurant on ground floor. No planning application yet. Also hear that Kent House Tavern was sold at auction. Likely to be for conversion to flats.

Dreadful news about the KH. It was a lovely looking pub, with a brilliant interior layout, just mismanaged for too long. The Alex sounds very promising though.
