Free School Fiasco

As you may have seen on the ITV local news last night, 53 parents have been left without a school place for September after Harris Beckenham pulled the plug on a new free primary school that was to have opened on their site at the fomer Kelsey Park Sports College in Manor Way, Beckenham.  This is why Labour have always opposed free schools and their complete lack of local accountability.  Bromley Tories have consistently supported the government line in creating them and abdicating their responsibilities as a local education authority.  The LEA may not be perfect but it is far better than the alternative.  We also now have the quite frankly ludicrous situation where the new Harris Free Primary School at the former Kingswood care home for OAP’s in Mays Hill Rd, Shortlands which was to open in September now operating from the former DSS building in Westmoreland Rd, Bromley.  The new bilingual free school which was to have operated from there is temporarily opening on the former Education Development Centre at Princes Plain, Bromley Common.  Musical schools anyone!  No wonder even Cameron sacked Michael Gove.
