“The Reader” Library Sign to return to Penge

We were all delighted when our new Library opened but concerned at the disappearance of the “The Reader” sign which had stood proudly in Maple Road and at other Penge Library sites before then. We learned that the council had taken to sign into “safe keeping”. Our worry was that this would mean Bromley Library at Orpington and the disappearance of another Penge landmark.

However, following pressure from your local councillors, we can now announce that The Reader is to return to where it should be, outside the new Library building in Green Lane. We have had to accept that in order to reduce street clutter near a busy junction, the no parking sign will be attached to the old sign but at least The Reader is coming home.
