Council Meeting Round Up From Monday Night

The petition from Bromley Income Equality Group for a Fairness Commission and the London Living Wage to be implemented in Bromley was unanimousley rejected by Bromley Tories. The latter of course does have the support of the Mayor of London. Council staff and those employed by contractors are currently seeing wage cuts of up to 40% as Bromley Tories pursue their ideology of commissioning to the lowest bidder. It may save the council money in the short term but many of the already not particularly well paid staff will probably receive some housing benefit so creating more working poor families in the borough. Councillor Bance secured a commitment to have a further report to committee on the issue of contractors having to pay UK Corporation Tax and to not use tax havens to look at all the legal issues involved. Councillor Brooks raised the issue of street cleaning in the area and in particular making sure that Bromley Council maintains the cleanliness of the High Street and working with local business to ensure that happens.
