Adult Education withdrawn from the Education PDS meeting tonight

After a steady stream of correspondence calling for the LBB to defer discussion on the 2 options for Adult Education in the borough it has been decided that the report to the Education PDS Committee tonight should be withdrawn.

This is an extract from the Chairman of Education PDS:

“No change is not an option, however, we believe that the short notice given to the committee and the lack of initial consultation with the Adult Education Board and staff and students is insufficient. We also believe that other options beside the two presented to the committee need to be explored and a fuller report including information on the market testing needs to be provided, before a proposal for the future provision of lifelong learning can be put for public consultation.

We will be asking the Portfolio Holder questions about the market testing and other aspects of the proposals as part of the Q&A following his regular update on his activities to the committee.”

The Labour Group accepts that the current financial losses cannot continue so changes are necessary but we will not sit back while Adult Education at Kentwood and so provision North of the borough is cut.

Please let us have your comments and ideas.
