We are Penge – Penge is not in Crystal Palace

Although we are very fond of Crystal Palace, its Cllrs and residents, Penge is not part of Crystal Palace.  We are a unique town and we need to retain our individuality and our name – Penge.

If you share this view please take every opportunity to address this as we have below with Timeout Magazine and their voting for local public houses and restaurants:

As Ward Councillors of Penge our residents are unhappy that they cannot vote for the excellent restaurants and public houses in Penge, as your system appears to think that Penge is in Crystal Palace whereas they are very different towns.

This issue came up at a local meeting last night and we agreed to contact timeout and try to get this put right.

Meanwhile many of us have declined to vote for our restaurants and public houses and give credit to the wrong town.

Crystal Palace Park is actually part of Penge, and always has been.

Actually when I was in Crystal Palace Ward I was quite happy (I live off Crystal Palace Park Road). Now I’m in West Lewisham and Penge Ward and strongly object to this. Can I make it clear it is not Penge I object to, it is being classed as part of Lewisham. I live and pay my rates to the London Borough of Bromley and have done so for most of my life.

  3. Hello Harry – We have no problem with boundaries or not. Its just that Penge is the name of our town. It cannot just be lost into Crystal Palace.
We are different and our residents are proud to be Penge so we need to make sure we are recognized as Penge. Timeout accepted our correspondence and were very grateful that we brought this to their attention. We love Crystal Palace too!

  4. Hello Harry – with the greatest of respect I am going to delete your comment now that we have answered because we do not want the bad language (within the URL link on the site). Thank you.

Unfortunately there is a precedent for this as Travelodge and the Harris Federation (amongst others) are in denial as to the existence of Penge.
