We enclose a message received from Chris Hafford, Bromley Borough Police Commander.
I know that you may already be aware but I wanted to let you know that the suspect arrested at the scene, Joshua Dobby was charged following the fatal collision on Lennard Rd,SE20 which resulted in the death of two people. Joshua Dobby of no fixed abode appeared in custody at Bromley Magistrates Court on Friday 2nd September charged with the following offences; two counts of causing death by dangerous driving, one count of causing serious injury by dangerous driving whilst unlicensed and uninsured and two counts of aggravated vehicle taking. He will next appear in custody at the Old Bailey in late September.
I also wanted to pass on my thanks and gratitude for the messages of support that we have received following the tragic incident. The bravery and community spirit shown by those who assisted at the scene was clear to see and made an impression on my officers and the nation through the media coverage.
My thoughts remain with the family and friends of Rozanne Cooper, Makayah McDermott and the three injured children at what is an incredibly difficult time. I offer my sincere condolences to them and to the close knit community in Penge, many of whom acted bravely when they rushed to lift the vehicle and give first aid to those injured, without a second thought for their own safety. They were courageous and they have my thanks and gratitude for assisting my officers and the casualties. Whilst specially trained officers continue to support the family, we are fully supportive of the independent investigation being carried out by the Independent Police Complaints Commission. It is understandable that after an incident like this that the public will want answers and full details of what happened, but we must be mindful of the ongoing investigations and the criminal proceedings. However, I would like to reassure you that through our close links with the community, we will continue to inform the public and provide up-to-date information wherever possible and appropriate.
I would also like to thank everybody who has come forward so far and provided assistance to the police and encourage you to continue speaking to my officers who are out patrolling Bromley Borough.
Best wishes and thank you again.
Could you please send any future communiques to my new E Mail address : richard4celia @gmail.com. Thanking you in anticipation,
Richard E. Hart
