The Penge & Crystal Palace Safer Neighbourhood teams report that November 2016 saw the lowest Penge & Cator crime figures for a long time, no doubt helped along with a spell of very cold weather!

Not the same for December.

On Christmas Day, there were two nasty robberies in the SE20 area.

Both happened within a short amount of time between 1010 am and 1030 am and both were committed by youth on a moped riding up the pavement and snatching property from the respective victims.

In the first incident, a lady was walking along Penge High Street near Avington Grove, she heard the moped approach from behind. It mounted the pavement and the pillion rider pulled her handbag from her grasp. She received a facial injury.

The second incident occurred in Anerley Road, using the same method. The only difference in this case was the female victim had just visited a cash point and had withdrawn some money.

The running theme across London is for mopeds with two riders to conduct these type of robberies, often snatching phones from people while they are using them.

Please alert your readers of this and ask them to be vigilant when withdrawing cash from cash machines, and to especially be wary of mopeds with two riders , usually riding recklessly.

If anyone sees such mopeds riding around, it is worth calling police even if they haven’t been seen to do anything. It helps us direct our resources into the area where we know they are operating.

Kind regards

Sergeant Rob Goodwin, PCSO Julie Pope and PC Dean Palmer.
