Bromley Voter ID Pilot

As you may have heard, Bromley is to be a pilot borough along with Gosport, Slough, Watford and Woking where residents will have to provide identification in order to be able to vote at the May local elections. There has been no consultation on this and we have argued that the date for registration to vote should also be as late as possible. In some countries, it is possible to register on polling day.  Bromley Tories have rejected this despite a government press release saying that councils would have discretion over this. We are concerned that this may lead to a reduced turnout as well as costing the taxpayer up to £150,000 to publicise this change.
